Why should I book a maternity and newborn photoshoot?

Black and white image of pregnant mother on bed

So, you’re in the process of becoming parents. It’s MAGIC. Thrilling. Hectic. A bit of a whirlwind. Kind of incredibly emotional. All of this sounding familiar? Booking a pregnancy photoshoot can feel a bit overwhelming and unfamiliar, and I understand that so I am here to make it feel as relaxing and beautiful as possible for you.

The thing is, when you become parents, you enter into this blur of reality. The days turn into nights, turn into days. It’s filled with this incredible love, a love that you’ve never really, truly felt before. But it is definitely a blur. You’ll get to a certain day and look back and be bowled over at how the time has passed, and so quickly. The memories will begin to merge into one big beautiful cloud of ‘parenthood’. Your little newborn will grow with each coming day, and soon the idea of them being quite that tiny will feel impossible.

What future you will hug yourself for, and even shed a little tear of gratefulness for, is capturing just some of those moments and bottling them up into a tangible memory that you can access at any time you wish. By getting professional maternity and newborn photos and capturing your emotions, body, thoughts and story at certain points, you’ll forever be able to recount just a tiny bit more of what it was like. Not only that, but you’ll be able to share with others, your friends and family, but most importantly, your baby. You’ll get them to an age where you can show them older photographs of their journey and say, ‘that was you!’.

pregnancy looks great on you

Your journey of pregnancy deserves to be celebrated. It’s a journey that is so powerful, often it is when women feel their strongest (if this isn’t you, totally understand! But your power may come in other ways). Capturing your body as it grows a tiny human is nothing short of incredible.

We are so set on photographing our daily lives as they happen around us: a quick snap here at brunch, another quick snap at the sky as the sun sets, another of a blurry selfie of you and a friend you haven’t seen for ages, a screenshot of a new jumper you’ve seen you like.

Why not make the capturing of this time the most beautiful it can possibly be. By booking a professional maternity photoshoot, you are creating an anchor memory for yourself that will forever be there to look back on in years to come. It documents the start of something utterly thrilling, and you don’t want that starting point to be forgotten. It isn’t just about snapping quick pictures, it’s about freezing a moment that you will look back on and thank yourself for freezing, because it symbolises such an incredible time.

A newborn really does not stay a newborn forever.

Fast forward 2 months. They’re here. It’s incredible. It’s madness. You’ve never felt anything quite like it. Your bump photograph is framed and up on the side table in the nursery, a story just waiting to be told to the tiny little being that is now the new love of your life. Wouldn’t it be perfect to have a second photograph to accompany that story, one of their first few weeks. Capturing those tiny toes, that flakey skin, the softness of skin that is so new and fresh. All the details, which you created.

what will I, as your maternity and newborn photographer do?

As your maternity photographer, I will be your biggest cheerleader in celebrating your power. You won’t have to think of maternity photo ideas, I’ll guide you through the session in a way that feels natural and right to you. My Buckinghamshire and London maternity photoshoots are peaceful and so special. It’s a wonderful opportunity to celebrate your body in this moment and to prepare for what will follow.

As your newborn photographer it’s about capturing that soft, milky, dreamy, wide eyed, gurgle inducing, heart pounding kind of love. Hold them close, bring them in, breathe in their newborn scent and count their tiny toes that will never fathom being that small again. My Buckinghamshire and London newborn photoshoots are all about celebrating the tiny new life you have just welcomed into the world. They’re a powerful way of documenting such a significant part of your journey and they relish the details that will embed themselves into your heart. The photoshoot is warm, slow paced and relaxed. It allows for feeding time (a moment which if you would like to, I love to capture) as well as time to document all the newborn goodness both on their own, with siblings and with you.

what can you expect from your maternity and newborn photoshoot?

We will photograph all the smallest of details, making sure to document your newborn in all their perfect newness. I’ll also create time and space for full family photos, including other siblings. Sibling and newborn photoshoots are beyond special for documenting the really early stages of that irreplaceable bond. We’ll wrap the whole family up in one big bear hug, giggling whilst we do it. Then we will create time for the intimacy between just you, mama and baby. Documenting motherhood is one of my favourite things in the world to do, because mother’s rarely end up in the photographs otherwise. They are so often the ones taking the shot, they forget to be on the other side of the camera. And it’s important to be. So important.

You will end up with a full gallery of about 100 photographs, edited to the highest quality. The images will include a range of individual newborn photographs, mama and baby, father and baby and the full family. These are yours to print large, display proudly and smile at always within your home.
